World Environmental Day: Voluntary cleanup at “Kaki Lagada” with free transportation.

We, Kythera Green, have been invited by Dimitris Barelos, on behalf of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) (https://necca.gov.gr/en/n-e-c-c-a/n-e-c-c-as-objectives-and-tasks/ ) to join them in an educational and environmental beach clean. NECCA is the national organization responsible for the management and protection of Greece’s protected areas, including Natura 2000 sites. Its mission includes biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness and the sustainable management of natural resources.

From Alex Bourne: Through its regional Management Units, NECCA works closely with local communities, aiming to bridge environmental protection with local engagement and participation. For the Kythera area, responsibility lies with the Management Unit of Protected Areas of the Southern Peloponnese (https://necca.gov.gr/en/mdpp/management-unit-of-the-southern-peloponnese-protected-areas/ ), which is actively involved in implementing conservation measures, supporting environmental education activities, and fostering cooperation with local stakeholders.

Dimitris contacted me as NECCA, in view of the upcoming World Environment Day, wants to organise a beach clean up with ourselves and local school children. Obviously we are extremely supportive of such an activity and, after some discussion and practical logistics assessment, we have settled on Kaki Lagada close to Agia Pelagia at 17.30 on Monday June 8th. I hope we get a great turnout of everybody so that together with NECCA and the school students we do a great job and help to inspire a new generation of environmentally aware Kytherians.
For the convenience and maximum participation of residents, the Municipality of Kythera and OFYPEKA have ensured free transportation by buses, which will start simultaneously at 16:30 following two major routes :
